OK, I wasn't really dragged, it was my idea, lemme explain.... Sometime in March, my brother Jariah called and said we should all move to Columbus(2 hours away) so the guys could get better jobs. I said that's a great idea, but lets go to Tucson(36 hours away) instead!! (Zion's been wanting to for years.) Everything worked out really fast, so two months later, we were on our way!
Have a great time all of you out there...while John and I are back here holding down the forts! The nice thing with the lack of rain is that we shouldn't have to mow at the yellow house but once while everyone is gone! See me looking at the bright side of things! You guys have fun!!!!
The Internet is amazing. Mom and Dad called last night around 9:30 Ohio time and said that they were running into a bit of a bad patch of weather. So I jumped online and took a look at the live radar, which showed a heavy patch of weather ahead.
They decided to try to find a hotel, so I did a quick search and found a decent place at a decent rate and reserved them a room. I was able to compare rates with other hotels and read reviews written by people who had stayed there before. Using Google Maps hybrid view I got them detailed to-the-door directions. All of this in a matter of minutes.
Sure beats driving around in the dark, wondering if the rain is going to stop, and trying to find a place that wasn't cockroach infested and had a room available.
The WII is amazing! Zion was able to take the card out of the camera and instantly turn all the pictures we took on the trip out here into a slide show. It was really cool! The pics would start at the top or bottom and pan the scene so it looked like a video. There was music and everything. They were shown on their new bigger flat screen so we could all see them. I was just gonna pass the camera around! We got some great shots of the Arch at St. Louis and then we also stopped at "The Largest Cross in North America" which turns out, I guess, to be the second largest. I got pics of the Leaning Water Tower at Groom Texas. We saw the Cadillac Ranch but I didn't have my camera out in time. Nessa wants to stop there on the way back. Then we visited Tucumacari, New Mexico which is on old Route 66. That has to be the main inspiration for Radiator Springs in the movie Cars. We got some fabulous shots there. Ness pointed out "Mack" in the parking lot of the Sonic we were eating at, (a newer "toy blue" Mack truck), saying something about the "...the new face of Dinoco..." and then a little bit further down the road we saw what looked exactly like Doc Hudson being pulled on a trailer. It was a riot! Ya had to be there with a 7 year old! She was getting very tired by the time we reached Texas Canyon 57 miles before Tucson. That is where huge boulders are piled and perched on top of each other giving the place a very Flintstonish flavor. She giggled and giggled with delight as we drove through there. So did her Papa and I!
